Volunteers help package and deliver freshly prepared meals each weekday to homebound seniors who are unable to shop or cook for themselves. The three-part Meals on Wheels program ensures that, in addition to a warm smile, seniors will receive a nutritious meal, a Well Being Check, and Emergency Follow up if needed. This thorough program provides an imperative human connection, too often lost when seniors live alone.
Meals are low in sodium and cholesterol and may be adjusted to fulfill diabetic and vegetarian needs. DSCC’s dietician is available for assistance to seniors with specific nutritional concerns.
All meals meet the 1/3 Dietary Reference Intake established by the US Government.
DSCC serves all of DuPage County through the following meal distribution points:
Addison Park District
Lifelink- Castle Towers
Bloomingdale Senior Center
Center for Senior Citizens
York Township Senior Center
Alfred Rubin Riverwalk Community Center
Westmont Park District
Marian Park Senior Residence
Call (630) 620-0804 for information about how to sign yourself, a friend or family member up for Meals on Wheels.
It costs DSCC over $8.00 to deliver and serve a single meal to a senior. Our major funding sources cover approximately $4 per meal. DSCC must raise the additional money to cover the costs of the meals. Seniors are asked to donate as much as they feel they can afford to help reduce the cost gap.
