Home Maintenance Program
DuPage Senior Citizens Council's (DSCC) Home Maintenance
Program was developed in 1991 to help seniors maintain
their homes. Our Home Maintenance Program is available
to DuPage County residents, age 60 and over. The program
is broken down into four thriving programs: Minor Home
Repair Program, Chore Days Program, Contractor Referral
Program and Senior Home Inspection Program.

Minor
Home Repair Program
The Minor Home Repair Program provides affordable minor
home repairs so seniors can maintain the safety and value
of their homes. This program was designed to meet an identified
need in the community, for a senior to access reliable
minor home repair services so that their home could remain
functional and in good repair. Most of the repairs needed
are typically too small and contractors are unwilling
to handle them, yet the work is necessary to ensure that
the senior can maintain a decent, safe, and sanitary living
environment. DSCC arranges for competent service people
to handle small jobs and chores at an affordable cost.

Chore Days Program
The Chore Days Program is sponsored by DuPage Senior Citizens
Council and the municipalities of: Bensenville, Elmhurst,
Lisle, Lombard, Villa Park, Warrenville and Westmont.
Chore Days is held every spring and fall in the towns
listed. Hundreds of seniors receive assistance from intergenerational
groups of volunteers who help with various outside chores.
Volunteers for this popular event include youth groups,
scouts, church groups, community organizations, families
and local businesses.
Contractor Referral Program
When a senior contacts DSCC for help with home repair
jobs that are larger in scope than we can handle, we
can offer them names of independent contractors who
are capable of doing the work. All contractors on our
list are pre-screened to meet our requirements. Contractors
that partner with us through this referral program work
directly with our seniors and charge their own rates.
Our referral list includes licensed plumbers, electricians
and other professionals who are insured and in good
standing with DSCC.
Please not that their rates differ from those of DSCC.
We urge contractors to offer senior discount rates.
We suggest you ask about their rates when you speak
with them.
Senior Home Inspection Program
The purpose of the Senior Home Inspection Program is to identify features in your home or daily routines
that might make your home safer from burglaries, fires
or injuries due to falls. The inspection begins at your
front door and includes a walk through of all your rooms
and the outside of your home. Upon completion, your
inspector will indicate what you should do to reduce
the risk of fire, burglary or injury due to a fall.
If you need further information or to schedule a home
inspection, contact our office at (630) 620-0804.
Over 800 seniors called us last year requesting help from
our Home Maintenance Program. |
