Growing older has many benefits –
among them are wisdom, maturity and experience. But
aging can also bring obstacles that, for many seniors,
can make life challenging. Health problems, financial
difficulties, and loneliness can make everyday life
more difficult.
Since 1975, DuPage Senior Citizens
Council (DSCC) has been helping the senior citizen population
of DuPage County. DSCC is a not-for-profit, community
based, volunteer driven agency, devoted to enriching
senior life. Through the efforts of dedicated volunteers,
a variety of programs are offered to help seniors live
safely in their own homes and communities, and provide
them the opportunity to maintain their physical and
mental health.
There are over 80,000 community-dwelling
seniors (65+) living in DuPage County. The percentage
of seniors in DuPage County is growing at a faster rate
than that of the State of Illinois, or of the nation.
In the last ten years alone, the 65 and over population
in DuPage County grew by 30%. The 85 and over population
grew by 79% since 1990. With the increasing number of
elders who vastly need our services, coupled with a
challenging economic climate, we are committed more
than ever to helping people of all ages understand and
respond to the needs and concerns of the older population.
Our Mission
The DuPage Senior Citizens Council initiates, delivers,
monitors and coordinates services, which promote the
ability of older persons to live their lives in dignity.
